The words of Thomas Jefferson are more true today than
when he first spoke them: “We in America do not
have government by the majority. We have government by
the majority who participate.”Ben
Franklin was asked the question “Well doctor,
what have we got - a republic or a monarchy” upon
leaving Independence Hall at the close of the
Constitutional Convention in 1787. His reply, “A
republic, if you can keep it.”According to
Jefferson the American people have not kept it.

My two favorite animals,
Siggy the guinea
pig and Miss Ava the yellow foot tortoise. Siggy wasn't
quite the happy rider I had hoped he would be. He jumped
off quickly!
Be sure to check out
the guinea pig and tortoise sections of the website to
see many more pictures and a lot of cool video. Links

Dianes Zoo
website has been an ongoing experiment just like the real zoo! I
am always updating this website because I am always adding
animals! The name Dianes Zoo is somewhat of a misnomer
since I don't like typical zoos where animals are
kept in cages. I know that many zoos around the world have
much more open habitat for the animals than zoos did decades
ago. I really didn't know what else to call my website so
used the word zoo but albeit grudgingly. I have had animals my entire life but it wasn't
until I walked into a reptile shop one day in 2003 and fell
in love with Russian tortoises that I began my love fest
with reptiles. Because of the guilt I felt buying such
exotic animals, I began to rescue turtles and tortoises. Now
I have 27 turtles and tortoises! The resident dog is a 12
year old German Shepherd named Herodeus and he shares the
house with ten guinea pigs! The ponds are definitely a
highlight of the yards. I started out with a few small
feeder goldfish and rosy red minnows but they have
multiplied like you wouldn't believe! Isn't this
yellow alamanda just gorgeous? There are a lot of flowering
plants and vines here at Dianes Zoo.
My intention for
creating the site was to share all of the wonderful creatures
and beautiful flowering plants and vines here at Dianes Zoo. I am
not an expert on any of the animals on my site. My experiences and
opinions are just that - mine and not intended for advice or
instruction. Another purpose for this site is to instill
in people that even in a small
localized area such as your yard, you can make a difference in
establishing a wildlife haven and it doesn't take a lot of
money or effort! No matter how much or little you do, you can contribute to wildlife and enjoy all the
creatures that come to visit you! I also share my thoughts and
ideas on energy resources, terrorism and overdevelopment.
This website has well over 100 videos, dozens of pictures
and some fun facts on the animals that I share my life with.
I hope that you will enjoy the site!
The majority of the
site is made up of my own menagerie but I also have the
local wildlife that hangs around my yard on the site.
I am always intrigued by what I see just by looking out my
windows or stepping outside. The absolute best local
wildlife are the six feral iguanas that live in my yard!
You can't visit this site without visiting their
page! Sometimes I
get requests to help people find homes for their reptiles or
guinea pigs or take them in myself. I can't take any more
animals in - Dianes Zoo is full! My recommendation is to do an
internet search on local
reptile and guinea pig rescue groups who will work with you. The hibiscus
flowers on the right are a main staple of the tortoise diet.
I feed the guinea pigs the flowers and
leaves and they seem to enjoy them as much as the reptiles
do, as well as the flowers and leaves of the Mexican
Petunias shown in the photo below and the top (purple
flowered plants).
This
website is viewed best with a high speed internet connection
as I have a lot of videos and pictures. I hope you enjoy
them as much as I enjoyed making them. Almost all of the
pictures and all of the video were taken with my Konica
Minolta Dimage Z1
digital camera. Unfortunately, according to their
website, "Konica Minolta Photo Imaging, Inc. ceased the
camera business on March 31, 2006." I bought it a few years ago and it has
been a staple around here ever since! I love the fact that
the zoom lens is so good that I can photograph and videotape
the animals outside from inside the house. Otherwise if I
went outside they would all leave. Having the camera
has been beneficial in capturing local wildlife and my own
menagerie as they behave naturally. Because I set up
the animals the way I did, I can view them from almost every
window and patio door. The tortoise pen is along side
the living room and the food station is right under the
window so everyday I am able to make sure they are doing OK
and also watch them eat.
I would love to hear from you so fill out my
feedback
form and let me know you dropped by the zoo! I always
welcome comments and questions but I do have submission
rules posted on the feedback page.I also have a
comments section where you can
let everyone know your thoughts about Dianes Zoo. You can
also access the comments page from the feedback page.
Your comments on the comments page will not receive a
response from me so if you want a response to a question or
comment, please utilize the feedback form on the feedback
page and I will respond to you as soon as possible. Please
realize that I am very busy with the animals, ponds and
vegetable gardens as well as this website so I will try and
get back to you in a timely manner.
